Career Tips from our Placement Leader

by michellep on 7/13/2011 in Blog

We know that a great education is important when deciding on where to go to school; a part of getting a great education is finding a school that's going to set you up for success upon graduation. At Paul Mitchell The School Dallas we have a Placement Leader that's available to assist each future professional (student) and graduate with professional development. They guide resume and interview preparation, employment assistance and career fairs.

Career Tips from our Placement Leader, Kaci:

  • First things first always be confident in your ability to make people feel good and walk in that confidence. Salon owners will immediately pick up on that, which says a lot.
  • Remember you make an impression with someone in the first 3 seconds that you encounter them.
  • Keep your resume on you always, ask if you need help there is always room for growth in so many area's.
  • I would also encourage future professionals and graduates to try out a smaller, fast paced salon because they give you great experience. Some graduates love to stay with them their entire career. Everyone starts somewhere in life, always strive for the best, and never settle if your not happy where your at then explore other salons.
  • Plan ahead, always be early. Start good habits while in school you never know who might be in the school that particular day!
  • Remember the 24.7 rule. Believe me you think you won't see someone that day and so we wear our hair in a messy bun and have tennis shoes on!
  • Start visiting salons on your town hall day (Paul Mitchell The School Dallas closes once a month for staff training) just to get a feel of what is going on in the industry. That way you can set some goals for yourself on where you see yourself, write those goals down and place them on your mirror or your car to see everyday.
  • I know that it gets hard, but push to make it to the end. Because when you are a salon owner you will remember those long days, and tiring nights, struggling financially but it will be so worth it!
Start networking as soon as possible at our Reverse Career Fair.

Meet our Placement Leader, Kaci Brinlee

Kaci is a member of the admissions team more specifically she is the placement leader. She loves her job because she loves talking to the future professionals (students) and helping get their career going.

Kaci has had an eventful professional journey. Her professional life in the beauty industry began when she started school at the Salon Professional Academy. Upon graduation, Kaci spent some time behind the chair working in the salon. And eventually made a transition to the business side of the industry, which she has really been loving. In late 2010 Kaci joined the team at PMTS Dallas to become the placement leader after reconnecting with Misti Mitchell (Sales Leader at PMTS Dallas).

Kaci feels as though her position as placement leader benefits the future professionals because she is always out and about visiting spas and salons, so she keeps up with whose hiring and what's happening in the industry. She wants to help each future professional and graduate find their dream job!

Knowing she has a small part in a future professional's / graduate's career success makes her role as placement leader worth it. She loves feeling like she is making a difference.
