Santa Ana, CA (March 1, 2011) – Following their successful collaboration on the innovative Paul Mitchell Schools’ “The Color System” DVD set, An Ideal World was tasked with production and postproduction duties on the client’s new interactive series, “The Cutting System.”
Robb Hart, Owner/Director of An Ideal World, worked closely with Brennan Claybaugh, Director of Education for Paul Mitchell Schools, to create a one-of-a-kind learning tool for the 14,000 students in 100 Paul Mitchell Schools around the country.
“Our vision was to make this learning experience interactive and unlike anything in hair education out there,” explains Claybaugh. “We developed our curriculum around multiple intelligence – the various ways that humans learn – whether they are spatial, verbal linguistic, body kinesthetic, math logical, musical, inter-personal, or intra-personal. Robb understood what we were trying to accomplish and presented ideas that were better than we could have imagined. He is a trusted partner and knowledgeable creative who goes above and beyond what is expected of him.”
The series, shot with RED 4K cameras, includes four DVDs and over 10 hours of content. Hart, who has years of experience in documentaries, TV programming and commercials, as well as interactive, was involved from pre-production planning to prep and shooting to postproduction.
“I recommended that we shoot all of the haircuts with four cameras – overhead, point of view, handheld, and on tracks,” says Hart. “This meant we got the best views possible so students could see body posture and positions in relation to the client’s head. We ended up with 12 terabytes of sourced material. In addition to handling the editing, graphics, and post, we also created 3D diagrams, the first time this has ever been done, which visually show students how to cut hair. By integrating these various features, we’re able to offer a fun interactive experience that encompasses different types of learners.”
The Cutting System DVDs released at the end of February will be available to every student of Paul Mitchell Schools, and also used in its teaching programs.
